VIDEO: Senior Citizen, 77, Smacks Joliet Police With Patio Chair, 'Both Of You Were Hitting My Son'

JOLIET, IL — Body camera video obtained from the Joliet Police Department's response to a family feud domestic disturbance call on Aug. 17 shows officers encountering 50-year-old Ernest Lopez on top of his female victim. Then, while the officers tried to gain control over him, his 77-year-old mother got involved and smacked the officers with one of her back patio chairs, according to police.

"Stop fighting!" one of the officers warned Ernest Lopez as the Joliet 50-year-old was being detained on his mother's back porch.

"Shut the f*** up!" he yelled back. "She's in her seventies," he said of his mother.

"Both of you were hitting my son," Concepcion Lopez remarked, according to body camera video.

Not only did Ernest Lopez wind up in the Will County Jail, so did his 77-year-old mother, Concepcion Lopez, who lives at the house in the 1300 block of Kenmore Avenue where all the trouble started.

By the end of the incident, as many as a dozen Joliet police officers responded to Kenmore to take control of the tense situation which involved a major family feud.

As the officers tried to arrest the 77-year-old woman on her back porch for aggravated battery to a police officer, she complained she was still barefoot. The officers waited for her to put her shoes on before escorting her back to their police cars.

"They're going to abuse you," her arrested son Ernest Lopez yelled toward his mother.

"You're going to my car right now," one of the officers told her. "Do you have anything in your pockets?"

"Do you have anything on you that can poke me, stick me or hurt me? No knives, needles, anything like that?" one of the female officers asked the 77-year-old detainee.

"I don't have anything, my purse is in there," the woman insisted.

"I have to ask these questions, OK?" the female officer advised.

"I haven't been out of this house in four years," Concepcion Lopez told her. "I have not talked to nobody or seen anybody."

"OK, she's good," the female officer checking Concepcion Lopez alerted her male colleague. "Good. Have a seat for now."

Once the woman was put into the back seat of his squad car, she fell over, with her hands behind her back in the handcuffs. The officers had to help sit her up properly. "I told you, I can't do anything with my hands like this," she insisted. "Those two guys (Joliet police) were against my son so that is why I felt forced to go in and do something. I never get in trouble. I'm not going to try to escape or anything. You can trust me. I am not a troublemaker."

The body camera video for the arrest of her son, Ernest Lopez, is posted down below, and the language is quite graphic as he's resisting the Joliet police officers and spewing all kinds of profanities at them during his struggles with them.

Like his mom, he also spent two days in the Will County Jail before retaining his freedom on Aug. 19.
