1. $250K grant aims to improve safety at one of Louisville's oldest public housing complexes (wlky.com) — Parkway Place residents in Louisville's Algonquin neighborhood will see new safety upgrades thanks to a $250,000 federal grant for dozens of security cameras tied into LMPD's real-time crime center. The funding is part of a broader plan to redevelop the 1940s-era public housing complex with new rental units, recreation spaces, and a community center, though full redevelopment is still years away.
   

2. Louisville stepping up crackdown on illegal dumping (wlky.com) — Louisville officials are intensifying enforcement against illegal dumping, especially at five unstaffed recycling centers that have seen the worst abuse, and have already impounded 47 vehicles this year. Residents face fines starting at $1,200 plus cleanup costs, and city leaders are urging you to report dumping through Metro 311 to help keep every neighborhood clean.
   

3. Family of 21-year-old who died in Louisville jail sues city, claims death was 'entirely preventable' (wave3.com) — The family of 21-year-old Juan Miguel Muñoz Penalver is suing Louisville Metro Government over his February death in Louisville Metro Corrections, alleging staff ignored his severe mental and physical decline. The federal lawsuit claims he died from complications of acute psychosis and dehydration after days of deteriorating behavior and inadequate monitoring, and seeks damages and a jury trial as the jail cites ongoing safety reviews.
   

4. JCPS board approves new budget with $51M deficit (whas11.com) — Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville has approved a new budget carrying a $51 million deficit but promises no further job cuts or property tax hikes while aiming for a surplus by 2029-30. Leaders say last year's much larger deficit included one-time costs, but teachers worry about staffing shifts, especially at Newcomer Academy, as enrollment and state funding decline.
   

5. $1.5 million cannabis cultivation facility planned at former Louisville coffee warehouse (wave3.com) — A former Louisville coffee warehouse on Quality Place Drive may soon be converted into a $1.5 million medical cannabis cultivation facility. Bloomstone Co. plans major renovations to most of the 20,000-square-foot building, which is partly occupied by Royal Cup Coffee and Tea, as Kentucky's licensed medical cannabis industry continues to take shape.
