3. Lafayette resident wins $100,000 Powerball prize with local ticket (theadvertiser.com) — A Lafayette resident recently claimed a $100,000 Powerball prize after buying a winning ticket at Royal Food Store on West Congress Street, taking home $73,000 after taxes. The Louisiana Lottery is using the win to remind Lafayette players to sign tickets, claim prizes within 180 days, and seek help if gambling becomes a problem.

His innovative work using tree rings and isotopes helps researchers better understand past climate patterns and rising carbon dioxide levels, underscoring the global impact of research happening right here in Lafayette.
