Officer runs through grocery store to arrest man in attempted Laurel carjacking, video shows (wusa9.com) — Police in Laurel arrested a Silver Spring man after he allegedly robbed a woman, stole her keys, and tried to carjack her, then ran through an Aldi supermarket while officers and a drone team pursued him. Body-camera video shows the chase through the store before officers coordinated to capture him and file multiple attempted carjacking and theft charges.
   

2. Johns Hopkins APL Hosts Government and Industry Leaders to Discuss Urgent Biodefense Issues (newswise.com) — Leaders from government, industry, and research recently gathered at Johns Hopkins APL in Laurel to map out how the U.S. can stay ahead in biotechnology and biodefense. The conference highlighted pandemic preparedness, cybersecurity, and reducing reliance on foreign drug manufacturing, while showcasing cutting-edge APL medical technologies that could directly shape future national security and health responses.
   

3. Johns Hopkins APL Expands Maritime Research Capabilities With New Test Vessel (jhuapl.edu) — Researchers at Johns Hopkins APL in Laurel are expanding their ability to test new maritime technologies with a custom 36-foot utility vessel called Sea++. Based near Annapolis, the boat lets Laurel-based teams quickly trial autonomous systems, sensors, and communications gear at sea, shortening the path from lab concepts to real-world military applications.
   

4. William B. Shifflett (dominionpost.com) — This obituary honors William "Sonny" Shifflett, who was born in Laurel in 1946 and later made his home in Masontown, West Virginia. A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era, he is remembered as a beloved husband, father, brother, and relative whose family is following his wishes for cremation and private arrangements.
