The 17-year-old Acton resident remains held without bail after pleading not guilty to charges in the deaths of his mother and younger brother, as prosecutors prepare the case for a grand jury.
   

2. Acton Fire pins four new firefighters (actonexchange.org) — Acton has sworn in four new firefighters, boosting staffing at a department that's struggled to fill shifts in recent years. At a pinning ceremony at Fire Station 4, town and public safety leaders welcomed the recruits, made possible in part by a new residency law Acton voters backed to widen the hiring radius for police and fire.
   

3. Household Goods Awarded $225,000 Cummings Grant (actonexchange.org) — Acton nonprofit Household Goods has secured a $225,000 Cummings Foundation grant, strengthening its ability to furnish homes for residents in need across Massachusetts. Based on Main Street in Acton, the volunteer-powered group will use the flexible three-year funding to keep providing free furniture and household items to thousands of families transitioning from homelessness or financial hardship.
   

4. Marine veteran who helped stop Memorial Drive shooting receives 9/11 award for civilian bravery - Boston News, Weather, Sports (whdh.com) — An annual 9/11 bravery award named for Acton native Madeline Amy Sweeney has honored a Marine veteran who helped stop a shooting on Memorial Drive in Cambridge. At the State House ceremony, Sweeney's daughter highlighted her mother's courage aboard Flight 11, keeping Acton's connection to this statewide recognition of civilian heroism front and center.
