📰 News we're reading

1. Fresh Start for Belmont High School Football in 2026 (belmontvoice.org) — Belmont High School's football team is gearing up for a rebuilding 2026 season under new head coach Chad Foster, with players focused on culture change more than championships. After last year's 0-10 record, seniors are emphasizing mentoring younger teammates, improved morale, and simply earning that first win, with all home games set for Harris Field this fall.

2. Real Estate Transactions for August 3, 2026 to August 14, 2026 (belmontvoice.org) — If you're watching Belmont's housing market, these early August sales show single-family homes closing between about $1 million and just over $2 million across streets like Hay Road, Shaw Road, and Orchard Street. The listing includes sale dates, prices, and basic property details drawn from the town assessor and Zillow.

3. Phishing Scam Targets Permit Applicants (belmontvoice.org) — Belmont officials are warning residents about a sophisticated phishing scam targeting people applying for local permits, including a recent case where a Belmont homeowner was asked by email to wire more than $31,000. Police urge anyone receiving unexpected payment requests that appear to be from town boards to call the relevant department directly, and the town plans clearer online warnings as it moves fully to OpenGov permitting.

4. As Lander Leads Brownsberger By 4 Votes, State Senate Race Heads To District-Wide Recount Set For Thursday (belmontonian.com) — Belmont voters are part of an extremely tight Democratic primary for the Middlesex and Suffolk state senate seat, with challenger Daniel Lander leading Sen. Will Brownsberger by just four votes. A district-wide recount next Thursday will see Belmont Town Hall packed with volunteers carefully re-tallying thousands of local ballots, including several provisional and previously damaged ones, before results go to the state.

5. Award Winning Authors Sarah Ignatius and Dana Walrath to Launch The Kaleidoscope of Destiny at NAASR • MassisPost (massispost.com) — Belmont readers can hear author Sarah Ignatius discuss her new Armenian Genocide novel, The Kaleidoscope of Destiny, at NAASR on Concord Avenue on September 22, with in-person and online options.
