📰 News we're reading
• Could Opus Newton be a national model for middle-income senior housing? (newtonbeacon.org) — A year after opening, Opus Newton is being hailed by local, state, and federal leaders as a potential national model for middle-income senior housing, with a 300-person waitlist already forming. Built in partnership with the JCC and backed by creative financing, the Newton facility offers a community-focused, continuing-care option aimed at the "forgotten middle" of older adults priced out of traditional choices.

• NPS to start before Labor Day, AC installation to follow in late September (newtonbeacon.org) — Newton Public Schools will open on Sept. 2, five days before Labor Day, while $1.2 million in new classroom air conditioners are not expected to be fully installed until late September. District leaders say the earlier start helps ensure 180 school days despite heavy snow last winter, but acknowledge concerns about heat in older buildings and advise parents not to assume all AC units will be running right away.

• Newton man dead in NH head-on crash (boston.com) — A 46-year-old Newton man, Juan Gabarro, was killed Monday in a head-on collision on Route 16 in Tamworth, New Hampshire, when another driver crossed into the southbound lane. Both drivers survived without reported injuries, and New Hampshire State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and are asking witnesses to come forward.
