WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester veterans nonprofit has opened a new food pantry to help veterans and military families access food and support services.

Project New Hope held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday for the new Sully’s Veteran Food Pantry at 70 James St, with representatives from the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office among those attending. The pantry is designed to serve veterans, military members, spouses and minor children who need food and other basic items, according to Project New Hope.

"It was an honor to attend Project New Hope Inc. Non-Profit Veterans Organization's ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new Sully's Veteran Food Pantry," Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. wrote in an announcement Tuesday. "This new resource will help ensure veterans and military families have access to nutritious food and supportive services when they need them most."

The pantry is operating from a larger space on James Street, Spectrum News 1 reported. Project New Hope President Bill Moore told the outlet the need for food assistance has been growing, particularly among older veterans.

The pantry offers nonperishable food, frozen meats, dairy items, seasonal vegetables, hygiene products, feminine products and pet food, according to the organization.

Sully’s Food Pantry hours in Worcester are the first and third Saturdays of each month from 9 to 11 a.m., with appointments required.
