Worcester Commuter Rail Riders To See Temporary Schedule Cuts
Crews will replace about 15 miles between Framingham and Auburndale.
WORCESTER, MA — Worcester Commuter Rail riders will see temporary midday schedule changes beginning Monday, July 27, while crews replace rail between Framingham and Auburndale.
The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services, the T’s commuter rail operations and maintenance partner, said the temporary construction schedule will allow crews to complete track work to improve service reliability, according to an announcement from state Rep. Hannah Kane.
The changes will temporarily remove four off-peak inbound trains from the schedule, with service operating about every two hours between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Four off-peak outbound trains will also be temporarily removed between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., with service operating about every two hours.
Several midday trips in both directions will have five minutes added to their scheduled run times. Inbound and outbound rush-hour service will not be affected, according to the announcement.
Crews will replace 80,000 linear feet of rail, or about 15 miles, between Framingham and Auburndale. Because the work covers both tracks, the project is equal to about 7.5 track miles. The new rail is expected to last more than 25 years, according to the announcement.
The Framingham/Worcester Line connects Worcester with Boston and includes stops in Westborough, Southborough, Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, and Newton.
