Worcester To Receive $20K In State Funding For Affordable Housing Development
A large grant will help support the development of affordable housing in the city.
WORCESTER, MA — Worcester is expected to receive a large grant to support the development of affordable housing, according to state officials.
Sen. Michael Moore (D-2nd Worcester) announced Wednesday that he secured $20,000 to support the development of affordable housing by the New Americans Community Development Corporation in Worcester’s Main Middle neighborhood. Moore said the funding comes from a legislative earmark included in the FY27 state budget.
“So proud to share that I secured a $20,000 earmark in the Senate's FY27 budget to support the development of affordable housing by the New Americans Community Development Corporation in Worcester's Main Middle neighborhood,” Sen. Moore wrote in an announcement Wednesday.
Local communities and school districts can receive targeted funding through earmarks or eligible state programs funded by the amendment.
The announcement comes more than a month after Sen. Moore said Worcester would receive another $130,000 in state funding to repair and replace sidewalk curb ramps to meet ADA wheelchair guidelines.
Another local project also received state funding through an earmark. Worcester State University is expected to receive $45,000 in state funding to fund the Latino Educational Institute, which works to improve the academic achievement and well-being of Latino families and students, from elementary school to college.
