Worcester Schools Highlight Wellness Rooms, Supports for Mental Health Awareness Month
Wellness rooms are now available across schools in the district.
WORCESTER, MA — Worcester Public Schools is marking Mental Health Awareness Month by spotlighting the resources and spaces available to help students and staff manage stress and support their well-being.
District officials say wellness rooms, which are now available across schools, are a key part of that effort. These designated spaces are designed to give students a place to pause, regulate emotions and reset before returning to the classroom.
“Across the district, our wellness rooms offer calming spaces where students can regulate, reset and return to learning with the support they need,” the district said in a social media post announcing the initiative.

The rooms are part of a broader strategy focused on mental and emotional health, which includes student support services, access to healthy meals, physical activity, mindfulness practices and family resources.
Worcester Public Schools emphasized that the focus on wellness extends beyond May.

“At WPS, wellness is more than a monthly message—it is part of how we care for our community all year long,” the district said.
As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, the district is encouraging students, staff and families to take small but meaningful steps, such as checking in with themselves, making time to recharge and supporting others who may need someone to listen.
School leaders say the goal is to support the “whole child," academically, socially and emotionally, while also strengthening the broader school community.
