JPD asks public to use 911 for emergency, non-emergency calls (wapt.com) — If you had trouble reaching Jackson police Wednesday, officials say the non-emergency phone lines are now working again, so you no longer need to use 911 for routine calls. City leaders and Capitol Police still warn that cellphone 911 calls may be briefly routed through JPD before being transferred, which can add a minute or two to response times.
   

2. Drivers in Jackson report harassment by panhandlers at Highway 80 and Terry Road (wapt.com) — Drivers in Jackson are reporting aggressive behavior from panhandlers at Highway 80 and Terry Road, including spitting, throwing objects and lewd acts when money is refused. Capitol Police say they've logged 78 calls at that intersection and 2,600 similar calls citywide this year, while local outreach efforts try to offer paid cleanup work and the city launches a new homelessness initiative.
   

3. Cassandra Wilson, the 2-time Grammy Award-winning jazz singer, dies at 70 (wjhl.com) — Jackson is mourning native daughter Cassandra Wilson, the two-time Grammy-winning jazz vocalist who died Tuesday at age 70 in her hometown. Raised and educated in Jackson before rising to international acclaim, she remained closely tied to her Mississippi roots, and city leaders are honoring her legacy as a singular voice who carried Jackson's sound to stages around the world.
   

4. Jazz singer Cassandra Wilson dies at 70 (swedenherald.com) — World-renowned jazz singer Cassandra Wilson, who grew up in Jackson and carried its musical heritage worldwide, has died at 70. Known for her rich contralto and genre-blending style, she inspired pride across Mississippi; Jackson's mayor praised how she shared the state's sound and history on global stages.
