1. MPD Investigating Grandview Avenue Shooting (queencitynewsfeed.com) — Meridian police and other city emergency crews responded Friday evening to a shooting on the 2900 block of Grandview Avenue, where a man was hospitalized in stable condition. One person is in custody, and investigators say the incident stemmed from an altercation between people who knew each other, with no ongoing threat reported to the wider Meridian community.
   

2. Meridian residents water bills to increase beginning in October (twinstates.news) — Meridian residents will see their water bills rise 7% starting October 1, 2026, with an extra $3 monthly water fee and $10 sewage fee to fund system upgrades. City leaders invite you to learn more or raise concerns at the Meridian City Council work session Tuesday at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
   

3. United Way kicks off 2026-2027 campaign (meridianstar.com) — Meridian residents just saw the United Way of East Mississippi launch its 2026-2027 "United in Harmony" campaign at the Park Drive offices, with Mayor Percy Bland backing its unity-focused message. Serving Lauderdale, Kemper, Clarke and Neshoba counties, the effort supports more than 20 partner agencies, from food programs to community services, and honors the legacy of local leader Fannie Johnson.
   

4. Meridian City Council approves FY 2027 budget (meridianstar.com) — Meridian's new $220.6 million city budget for FY 2027 is now approved, shaping everything from police and fire protection to parks, streets, and water and sewer projects. Council members debated using about $5 million from reserves, but ultimately backed a plan that leans on ad valorem taxes, fees, and prior fund balances to keep city services running.
   

5. 186 ARW Unveils New Tail Art on KC-135 Aircraft (af.mil) — A KC-135R tanker at Meridian's Key Field now sports new tail art honoring the city's aviation pioneers, the Key brothers, and the 186th Air Refueling Wing's Mississippi roots. The hand-painted design, donated by artist Shayne Meder, highlights air-to-air refueling history and celebrates the legacy carried on by local airmen based in Meridian today.
