Princeton Council To Discuss Zoning Update, Immigration Policy Monday

PRINCETON, NJ — The Princeton council will take up a resolution on the use of municipal property in connection with federal immigration enforcement, a multimillion-dollar sewer contract and the next phase of a zoning code overhaul when it meets Monday.

Here's what's on the agenda.

Immigration Enforcement Resolution

Council is set to consider a resolution "regulating the use of municipal property in connection with federal civil immigration law enforcement." The agenda does not include further details on what the resolution would do.

Zoning Code & Public Works Plans

Arista Strungys of the planning firm Camiros will present a Zoning Code Diagnostic Report. Later in the meeting, council will vote on awarding Camiros a contract of up to $188,900 for Phase II of the town's Unified Zoning Code Update.

Council will also see a presentation on a proposed concept plan for a new Department of Public Works facility at 298 River Road.

Sewer, Footbridges & Other Spending

Council will vote on a contract of up to $5,672,325 with Waters & Bugbee Inc. for sewer rehabilitation on Hamilton Avenue.

Other resolutions on the agenda include:

• A $40,845 increase to a contract with French & Parrello Associates for inspection work on the rehabilitation or replacement of two pedestrian footbridges in the Mountain Lakes Preserve, bringing the total to $216,831

• Applying for a $350,000 state Department of Community Affairs Public Safety and Health Grant for 2027, which requires no local match

• A site license agreement with New Cingular Wireless PCS LLC at 12 Witherspoon St.

• Submitting the town's 2026 Community Development Block Grant annual action plan

New Tax Assessor, Health Insurance Change

Council is expected to appoint Vilius "Will" Jankauskas as Princeton's tax assessor. Members will also vote on having Princeton join the Metropolitan Health Insurance Fund and appointing a fund commissioner.

Parking Ordinances

A public hearing and final vote are scheduled on an ordinance regulating parking on Henry Avenue.

Council will also introduce an ordinance on restricted parking spaces for people with disabilities on Clay Street. A public hearing on that measure is set for Oct. 12.

Other Business

The meeting will open with a proclamation honoring Alfredo Garcia Martinez on his retirement. Council will also receive the police chief's monthly report for August and an update on the Historic Preservation Commission's design guidelines.
