Secaucus Man Arrested By NY State Police

SECAUCUS, NJ — New York State Police announced they conducted a sting in June, where police officers posed online as underage minors. They say various men chatted with them for the purpose of engaging in sexual activities.

A total of five people were arrested as part of the sting, and one of them is a 26-year-old Secaucus man.

NY State Police said all five men communicated online with people they believed were underage minors, "for the purpose of arranging in-person meetings to engage in illegal sexual activity."

Alex Garrett, 26, Secaucus, is charged with two counts of attempted rape in the second degree (a felony), first-degree attempted unlawful dealing with a child (a misdemeanor) and attempted child endangerment (a misdemeanor).

The sting was done over several days in June, NY State Police said in this press release.

Garrett was arraigned June 13 in the town of Ramapo, New York. He was taken to the Rockland County jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond, or a $150,000 partially secured bond.

The other four men arrested:

• Oleksandr Vershok, 36, of Brooklyn was charged with second-degree attempted rape, and attempted endangering the welfare of a child. On June 12, Vershok was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Court.

• Anthony J. Kamycki, 36, of Ronkonkoma on Long Island was charged with attempted rape and felony attempted disseminating indecent materials to a minor. On June 12, Kamycki was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Court.

• Ritchy D. Mercure, 24, of Spring Valley, was charged with attempted rape and attempted endangering the welfare of a child. On June 13, Mercure was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Court.

• Bryan J. Wylong, 24, of Poughkeepsie, was charged with three felony counts of attempted rape, and felony attempted disseminating indecent materials to a minor. On June 23, Wylong was arraigned at the Orange County Centralized Arraignment.

The Internet sting was done by New York State Police, the Rockland County Sheriff's Office, the town of Ramapo Police Department, the Rockland County Intelligence Center and the FBI.
