NJ Teens Jump From Stolen Vehicle, Try To Flee In South Jersey, Police Say

TURNERSVILLE, NJ — A 14-year-old and 17-year-old were arrested after driving a stolen car on Tuesday morning, the Washington Township Police Department said.

At around 1 a.m., an officer watched a silver Hyundai traveling at a high speed along State Highway 42 south.

The people in the car appeared to be wearing face masks.

The officer stopped the car after it made a sudden turn into the "Raising Cane's" parking lot.

Two people immediately got out of the moving Hyundai and ran away through the woods towards Egizi Funeral Home, according to officials.

The officer was able to safely stop the moving car.

A perimeter was established, and the teens both surrendered when they came into contact with law enforcement.

The Hyundai was stolen overnight out of Glassboro.

The driver's side door handle was gone, the ignition was popped, and a long flathead screwdriver that resembled others used to steal cars was found inside.

The teens were charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest by flight.

Under state law, both were released to their guardians while they await court proceedings.
