1. Home rental scam targets Albuquerque residents (kob.com) — Albuquerque renters are being targeted by a home rental scam that uses photos of a legitimately rented house and charges people $60 for bogus self-guided tours. Local real estate leaders warn residents to be wary of below-market prices, landlords who refuse to meet in person, or anyone demanding deposits before you see or lease a property, and urge checking ownership records.
   

2. The Metro prepares for monsoon rains this week (koat.com) — With more monsoon rain expected this week, Albuquerque officials are closely monitoring arroyos and warning residents to stay out of them, especially near Four Hills where a recent flash flood turned deadly. The city's flood control authority is checking drainage systems while roofing crews race to fix leaks and damaged roofs before the next round of storms hits neighborhoods.
   

3. Albuquerque city councilor expresses frustration over cancelation of luminaria tour (krqe.com) — Albuquerque's traditional luminaria bus tour will not run this year, frustrating City Councilor Joaquín Baca, who says the decision was poorly planned and could create safety issues without organized traffic control. City officials cite low revenue and a desire to give ABQ Ride employees Christmas Eve with their families, while pledging to work with neighborhoods to keep the luminaria tradition alive.
   

4. PNM to roll out smart meters for every customer (kob.com) — PNM is preparing to install new smart meters for every customer, including households across Albuquerque, starting later this year. The meters will provide detailed daily energy-use data, reduce the need for meter readers, and could help residents better manage electricity costs without needing to sign up.
   

5. After record-breaking summer heat, green chile production in New Mexico craters (krqe.com) — Green chile lovers in Albuquerque are feeling the crunch as Rosales Produce in the North Valley sells out by noon every day, moving about 8,000 pounds daily amid a statewide shortage. Farmers and industry leaders blame record-breaking heat, pests, and heavy rains, and they warn residents to shop early and expect an unusual, possibly earlier, end to chile season.
