Japanese Fall Festival returns to EXPO New Mexico with Asian art, food, music and culture (abq.news) — Japanese culture will take center stage in Albuquerque as the Aki Matsuri Japanese Fall Festival returns to EXPO New Mexico this Sunday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can enjoy taiko drumming, ikebana, art, food, and performances while supporting efforts to document Japanese-American history and build a future Japanese Cultural Center in Albuquerque.
   

2. From cafeteria to compost: How APS is turning lunch waste into local soil (abq.news) — Albuquerque Public Schools has launched a pilot program that turns uneaten cafeteria food into compost instead of landfill waste, starting at the district's central kitchen. Partnering with Soilutions, Denali, and Ciudad Soil & Water Conservation District, APS aims to expand this effort district-wide, teaching students conservation habits while improving New Mexico's depleted soils and supporting the Healthy Universal School Meals Initiative.
   

3. Albuquerque crews repair potholes after post-storm surge (koat.com) — Albuquerque residents are being urged to report new potholes to 311 as city crews race to fix damage from recent storms, already repairing dozens across town. With extra staff on standby and overtime underway, officials say quick reports from drivers will help them tackle hundreds of problem spots more efficiently.
   

4. Celebrating the Mother Road(s) (cabq.gov) — A new National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark plaque now marks the exact spot where both historic Route 66 alignments meet at Central Avenue and 4th Street in Downtown Albuquerque. City officials say the marker honors the Mother Road's cultural and economic impact on Albuquerque and will help residents and visitors better appreciate the city's role in Route 66 history.
   

5. Old Town Emporium shop closing after decades in Albuquerque (krqe.com) — A beloved Old Town Emporium souvenir shop in Albuquerque is preparing to close after decades as a cultural staple, with the owner retiring and winding down inventory. Locals are encouraged to stop by over the next several weeks, as the store plans to stay open through the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta before its lease ends in November.
