NICE Bus launches Mini MILE pilot in central Nassau; alternative service impacting East Meadow (liherald.com) — A new NICE Bus Mini MILE pilot will soon give East Meadow residents an on-demand, fixed-route hybrid shuttle running between the Bellmore LIRR station and Hempstead Turnpike. Weekday service from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. will be free through Oct. 31, then cost $3 per ride, with reservations available by app or phone and full ADA accessibility.
   

2. East Meadow schools open year with safety, bond updates (liherald.com) — East Meadow families are getting new school-year changes, including a switch to Parent Square alerts on Oct. 1 and mandatory visible student ID lanyards in secondary schools starting Oct. 5 to boost security. Officials also outlined how residents can track the $71.5 million bond projects online and apply for the Bond Oversight Advisory Committee, while celebrating strong graduation and academic results.
   

3. Long Island fire departments urge residents to prepare ahead of nor'easter (news12.com) — East Meadow's fire department is urging residents to get ready now for a potentially dangerous nor'easter that could knock out power and make roads impassable. Local officials recommend stocking up on nonperishable food, cash, batteries, and chargers, assembling a go bag, and staying far from any downed power lines or metal fences they might energize.
   

4. Students in East Meadow honor Patriot Day with remembrance, reflection (liherald.com) — Students and staff across the East Meadow School District marked the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 with ceremonies, lessons, and quiet reflection. From a flag-raising at Salisbury School with local veterans to bench dedications at both high schools and age-appropriate classroom activities, schools emphasized remembrance, unity, and learning the history and everyday heroism connected to that day.
