• Fire Prevention Day, Open House planned for Oct. 4th (gcnews.com) — Garden City residents are invited to Fire Headquarters on Stewart Avenue for the Fire Department's free Fire Prevention Day & Open House on Sunday, October 4, starting at noon. Families can meet local volunteer firefighters, watch live demonstrations, learn lithium‑ion battery safety tips, enjoy free food, and explore how to volunteer with the all‑volunteer department. 
• Garden City-Massapequa football game moved to Monday night (on3.com) — Garden City football fans should note that the Trojans' much-hyped showdown with Massapequa has been pushed from Saturday to Monday at 5 p.m. at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium because of an incoming nor'easter. With Garden City riding a 68‑game win streak, this rescheduled clash is being billed as one of Long Island's biggest high school games ever.
