2 Muggers Held Victim Captive While Accomplice Withdrew Money From Accounts: Police

KINGSTON, NY — A terrifying crime was stymied when the victim was able to escape and flee his captors, according to police in Ulster County.

On Monday, Mickael S. Spiecker, Shareal N. Brown, and Dustin G. VanEtten, all of Kingston, were arrested by City of Kingston police and charged with felony first-degree robbery, and misdemeanor second-degree unlawful imprisonment.

A day earlier, at 4:45 a.m., the three approached a man walking from a store on Broadway and forced him to a secluded spot off of Broadway, where they took his wallet and cellphone.

The victim's wallet contained a debit card. The three muggers forced the victim to give them his PIN, according to cops. Two of the arrestees then held the victim at the secluded area while the third went to an ATM and withdrew cash, according to police.

When the third mugger returned to the secluded area, the three tried to force the victim to walk to another location with them, but the victim was able to run from them and flee to safety, where he called 911, according to Kingston police.

Following a brief investigation, officers were able to locate and arrest the three suspects. They were processed at Kingston Police Department headquarters, and arraigned in Ulster County CAP Court. All three were remanded to the Ulster County Jail.

Spiecker and Brown are both on parole for burglary, while VanEtten was out on bail for a previous robbery charge.
