Mineola commercial building partially collapses (longislandpress.com) — A commercial building at 158 Third St. in Mineola partially collapsed Saturday, drawing a countywide technical rescue response but fortunately causing no injuries. Firefighters, the Village of Mineola Building Department, and the Nassau County Fire Marshal stabilized the site and are investigating the cause while assessing whether additional safety measures are needed for the remaining structure.

Sex Offender Nabbed At Probation Office With Phone Used For 'Sexual Purposes': PD (patch.com) — Mineola readers should know Nassau County's probation office in town was where officers first seized a cell phone from a registered sex offender, sparking a multi-agency investigation. The Bethpage man is now facing multiple felony charges involving alleged indecent material and child sexual performance, and was scheduled for arraignment in Hempstead.

Mineola High School marching band to perform at 2028 London Parade (newsday.com) — Mineola residents can take pride in the Mineola High School Mustang marching band and wind ensemble, which have been invited to perform in London's prestigious 2028 New Year's Day Parade. The 120-member group, a six-time state champion, was selected after organizers saw their energetic performances online, marking the first New York band appearance there since 1991.
