Heat Dome Bakes Region As Con Ed Urges Customers To Limit Energy Consumption, Thousands Lose Power
The total number of customers affected by power reductions while repairs to equipment are underway is about 89,000, according to Con Edison.

NEW YORK — Con Edison is asking customers in parts of Southern Westchester, the Northeast Bronx, and City Island to conserve energy, as temperatures climb into the triple digits.
Con Edison is asking customers in certain areas of Yonkers, Pelham, Mount Vernon, Bronxville, Eastchester, New Rochelle, the town of Mamaroneck, and in certain areas of the Northeast Bronx and City Island, to conserve energy while crews repair equipment.
Con Edison has reduced voltage in the area by 8 percent to protect equipment and maintain service as crews make those critical repairs.

The Westchester area is roughly bounded by the Bronx on the south, parts of Eastchester and New Rochelle on the north, parts of Yonkers and Tuckahoe on the west, and parts of New Rochelle and Mamaroneck on the east. The affected area also includes some customers in the northeast part of the Bronx and on City Island, according to the utility.

Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews complete repairs. The company also asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning Those who have two air conditioners, are asked to use only one and set it to the highest comfortable temperature.
The company also asks that customers refrain from charging electric vehicles in these neighborhoods, except when necessary, while the repairs are underway.
The equipment problems in the area have no effect on the rest of the Con Edison system. The company is in communication with Westchester County Emergency Management, according to Con Edison officials.
Customers can report outages and check service restoration status here, with the mobile app for iOS or Android devices, or by calling 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When calling, customers should report whether their neighbors have also lost power. Customers who report outages will receive updates with their estimated restoration times as they become available.
