North Shore Beach Waters Remain Closed, Officials Say

OYSTER BAY, NY — A North Shore beach's waters have been closed to bathing as of Saturday, officials said.

The Nassau County Department of Health announced the closure of Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park Beach's waters in Oyster Bay on Aug. 15.

This is due to elevated bacterial levels, and the waters will remain closed until "testing indicates that samples are within acceptable limits," according to the NCDOH.

As of August 17, the waters are still closed, officials said.

Along with this North Shore beach, four South Shore beach waters have been issued an alert. The following Nassau County beaches have received an advisory against bathing effective Monday, August 17, according to the NCDOH, due to the possibility they could be impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall – which could impact bathing water quality.

• Island Park Beach – Island Park
• Hewlett Point Beach - East Rockaway
• Philip Healey Beach - Massapequa
• Biltmore Beach Club - Massapequa

The NCDOH said the advisory for the South Shore beaches will be lifted at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, unless there is additional heavy rainfall or elevated bacterial levels.

The North Shore beach will remain closed until further testing is done.
