With rooftop recreation, arts spaces, and a full gym, local leaders say the school finally matches the quality of education families were promised and offers a safe, resource-rich home base for neighborhood teens.
   

4. Queens parish not only faces the tragedy of 9/11, but also a plane crash (pix11.com) — In Belle Harbor, Queens, St. Francis DeSales parish is marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with a morning Mass and an afternoon memorial service for students at the adjacent Catholic academy. The church, which lost parishioners in both the World Trade Center attacks and the Flight 587 crash, maintains a memorial garden honoring neighbors whose loss still shapes the tight-knit Rockaways community.
   

5. Guy Stumbles Upon Playpen Under Bridge And Finds 2 Terrified Furballs Inside (thedodo.com) — A Queens resident recently discovered two abandoned adult cats left in a tiny playpen outside a closed animal hospital and contacted local rescue group NatSavesCats. Now safely fostered in Queens, Liberty and Chance are fixed, vetted, and urgently seeking a long-term foster or adopter, with the group also welcoming donations to support their care.
