Town officials said the roles provide valuable work experience — particularly for students and young adults — while helping maintain the services that keep Smithtown active, clean and safe during the busy summer months.

One of the town’s most pressing needs this year is a Pool Manager at Smithtown Landing Pool. The facility serves as a central gathering place for families, swim lessons and community programming from late June through Labor Day.

The Pool Manager oversees daily operations with a strong emphasis on safety, staff supervision, facility oversight and public engagement. The role requires leadership, sound judgment and aquatics experience, as the manager sets the tone for the town’s busiest recreational site, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

The Recreation Department is also seeking a Windsurfing Director to oversee the town’s summer waterfront program. The position includes supervising daily windsurfing instruction, ensuring participant safety, maintaining equipment readiness, training instructors and developing lesson plans for all skill levels while maintaining compliance with safety regulations.

“A summer job with the Town of Smithtown has long been a meaningful rite of passage for our young residents,” Supervisor Edward Wehrheim said. “It’s an opportunity to build a strong résumé, stand out on college applications, and, more importantly, develop real-world skills that prepare them for the next chapter of adulthood. Many of our seasonal employees return year after year — and some even grow into permanent roles serving this community.”
