Syracuse Crunch owner wants new arena, county says business plan must work for taxpayers (localsyr.com) — Syracuse Crunch owner Howard Dolgon is pushing for a new arena to replace the Oncenter War Memorial, but Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon says any project must be backed by a solid business plan that protects taxpayers. County leaders want proof of additional tenants and economic benefits before considering a facility that could cost $200–$300 million or more.
   

3. Syracuse to lost 800 parking spots with closure of Atrium Parking Garage (cnycentral.com) — Downtown Syracuse is losing 800 parking spaces when the Atrium Parking Garage in Armory Square closes in October, worrying nearby restaurants about access for customers. City officials are urging drivers to shift to nearby lots and note a new Marriott garage should open later this month, but businesses fear tighter street parking could discourage people from heading downtown.
   

4. Sharif Bey Wins Inaugural Spector Craft Prize (artnews.com) — Syracuse-based artist and educator Sharif Bey has been named the inaugural winner of the national Spector Craft Prize, bringing significant recognition to the city's arts community. His ceramic work exploring identity and material history will be acquired by Crystal Bridges Museum, and he'll deliver the keynote at November's Spector Craft Summit alongside other leading craft artists.
   

5. Rep. John Mannion declines Central Current debate, appearing to avoid only debate with live audience (centralcurrent.org) — Residents of Syracuse and the wider NY-22 district are losing a rare chance to question their congressman directly after Rep. John Mannion declined a Central Current and WAER debate that would have featured a live audience. The piece details his alternative debate plans, critiques from Republican challenger Kailee Buller, and growing frustration from Syracuse-based advocacy groups over limited in-person engagement and Mannion's record on immigration and Israel-related votes.
