Police warn of spike in suspected fentanyl overdoses in North Carolina city (myfox8.com) — Fayetteville police are warning residents after four suspected fentanyl-related overdoses in three days, pushing this year's total to match all of 2025. Officers believe a stronger or tainted drug supply may be circulating and urge people to call 911 immediately, use Narcan if available, and stay with overdose victims while authorities investigate the source.
   

2. DNA links Fayetteville murder suspect to 3 unsolved sex assaults (fayobserver.com) — Fayetteville investigators say DNA evidence has linked a local murder suspect to three previously unsolved sexual assaults dating back to 2018, all involving attacks in or near wooded areas. The Fayetteville Police Department's Cold Case Special Victims Unit used CODIS database matches to connect the cases, and the suspect's murder trial is scheduled for later this month.
   

3. Column: Greek Community Gearing Up for Annual Festival at Beloved Church (cityviewnc.com) — Fayetteville's Greek community is inviting residents to the 36th annual Fayetteville Greek Festival on September 12–13 at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church on Oakridge Avenue. Expect homemade Greek food, music, dancing, church tours, vendors, and a partnership with Cumberland County Animal Shelter to support pet adoptions and safe pet ownership.
   

4. How did a veteran's grave marker end up at a Fayetteville job site? (fayobserver.com) — A construction worker in Fayetteville found a discarded veteran's grave marker in a concrete pile, even though a corrected headstone is already installed at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery near Spring Lake. State officials say the original marker should have been destroyed under federal guidelines, raising new questions about how removed headstones are actually handled and disposed of.
