His behind-the-scenes volunteer work at Carteret County’s biggest tournament keeps him closely connected to the community he helps govern year-round.

Working with the state’s Chief Medical Examiner, they carefully recorded GPS coordinates so any relatives who surface in coming years can find closure at the Graveyard of the Atlantic site.
