Noise complaints down in Raleigh following new 2026 ordinance (cbs17.com) — Raleigh's new 2026 noise ordinance is cutting loud-night complaints, with 911 calls for noise down 22 percent and only five citations issued so far. Residents near Glenwood South still report weekend car and motorcycle noise, while police and new compliance officers focus on loud mufflers and enforcing decibel limits for downtown businesses.
   

2. Wake DA investigates whether officers broke the law during Raleigh bar incident (wral.com) — Wake County's district attorney has ordered a criminal review of officers' conduct after two men, later found to be of legal drinking age, were taken to the ground and handcuffed during an ID check at Alchemy bar in Raleigh's Glenwood South. Investigators are weighing conflicting accounts from law enforcement and bar staff, and will decide within months whether the force used was legally justified.
   

3. Hopscotch Music Festival brings crowds, spotlight to downtown Raleigh (abc11.com) — Downtown Raleigh will be packed this weekend as the three-day Hopscotch Music Festival returns, filling City Plaza and nearby venues with thousands of visitors and extra business for local shops and vendors. Organizers, merchants, and the Downtown Raleigh Alliance say stronger safety measures and visible police and ambassador presence aim to keep the growing event lively and secure.
   

4. Raleigh listed as one of six major candidates for potential MLB expansion (cbs17.com) — Raleigh is being highlighted by ESPN as one of six leading candidates for a future Major League Baseball expansion team, with local backers already lining up potential ownership and political support. Grassroots group MLB Raleigh, Mayor Janet Cowell, and prominent investors are working to position the city ahead of Charlotte if MLB moves to add teams before 2029.
   

5. 4th Circuit says NC prisoner can sue over treatment during pregnancy (carolinajournal.com) — A federal appeals court has revived a lawsuit over how a woman was shackled and denied addiction treatment while giving birth at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh. The ruling means prison officials and medical staff must again face claims that her care violated constitutional and disability rights, potentially influencing future policies at Raleigh's state women's prison.
