State officials say the funds aim to make local water and sewer systems more resilient, replacing aging infrastructure and better protecting communities when future storms hit.

Mitchell County Animal Rescue and local Youth to Youth students are teaming up to offer cat play sessions, a student-designed mural unveiling, and a fundraiser supporting area nonprofits. Ā Ā Ā
ā¢ Agnes P. Pembroke (ourlocalcommunityonline.com) ā Longtime Spruce Pine resident Agnes P. Pembroke, 94, has passed away, with a requiem mass set for Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m. at St. Lucien Catholic Church and burial at Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. A resident since 1964 and active in the churchās Womanās Guild, she is remembered for her love of family, gardening, and entertaining. Ā Ā Ā
