• Conservation urged for local water customers (taylorsvilletimes.com) — Taylorsville water customers are being asked to voluntarily cut their water use by at least 5% because of ongoing drought conditions across North Carolina and the Catawba River Basin. The town outlines specific steps like limiting lawn watering, vehicle washing, and pool filling, while Hickory and nearby systems also move into Stage 1 voluntary conservation. Residents are urged to conserve until conditions improve. 
• Shooting leads to murder charge (taylorsvilletimes.com) — A late-night shooting in Alexander County on April 21 left one person dead and led to murder and accessory charges against two suspects now held without bond. Deputies, aided by Taylorsville Police and other agencies, quickly tracked the suspects’ vehicle into Iredell County. The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released the victim’s name at the family’s request.
