• 'Big upheavel': PPS families, leaders hold discussions as dozens of schools may close (koin.com) — Portland Public Schools is weighing closure or consolidation of more than a dozen schools after steep enrollment declines, with decisions that could take effect as soon as next fall. Parents met with district leaders at Faubion K‑8 to push for equity and strong programs in every neighborhood, and another community meeting is set Wednesday at Ida B. Wells High School.
   

• NASA's TEMPO satellite enables better monitoring of bad air days (popsci.com) — Recent wildfire smoke left Portland with some of the worst air quality on Earth, forcing closures of camps, pools, and outdoor events. NASA's new TEMPO satellite now tracks pollutants like wildfire smoke and ozone hourly, helping agencies better forecast dangerous conditions and potentially issue more precise health warnings for cities such as Portland and across North America.
