Speed-Enforcement Cameras Now Line Entire Highway In Philadelphia (patch.com) — Drivers across Philadelphia should prepare for expanded automated speed enforcement along Route 13, now lined with nearly a dozen new cameras from West Philly to Strawberry Mansion. After a 60-day warning period, motorists going 11 mph or more over the limit will receive mailed tickets, adding to the city's growing network of 80 speed cameras on major corridors and near schools.

Philadelphia's Museum Of Natural Sciences To Close After Nearly 200 Years (patch.com) — Philadelphians are facing the permanent closure of Drexel University's Academy of Natural Sciences museum on Sept. 30, ending nearly 200 years of public exhibits. While the museum will shut its doors, the Academy's vast scientific collections and research will continue, as city and state leaders work with Drexel to secure the institution's long-term future in Philadelphia.
   

3. Philly district opens public nonrenewal hearing for North Philly school's charter (audacy.com) — Families in North Philadelphia face uncertainty as the School District presses a case not to renew KIPP North Philadelphia Academy's charter, citing years of low test scores and high absenteeism and suspensions. A virtual public hearing has begun, and a hearing examiner will recommend whether the school's charter should be renewed while it remains open for now.
   

4. Duane Morris LLP - Property Assessments Increase Across Philadelphia, with Appeal Deadline of October 5 (duanemorris.com) — Philadelphia property owners are seeing average assessments rise 3%, with some neighborhoods like Kensington, Mantua, Grays Ferry, and Kingsessing facing jumps over 12%, which will affect 2027 tax bills. If you think your new assessment is too high, you must file a formal appeal with the Board of Revision of Taxes by October 5, 2026, and gather documentation well in advance of your hearing.
   

5. Drexel and the Academy of Natural Sciences are close on deal to continue the academy's operations and keep it in Philadelphia, Pa. leader says (inquirer.com) — State and city leaders, along with negotiator David L. Cohen, are working to keep Drexel University's Academy of Natural Sciences operating and based in Philadelphia even as its long-standing museum closes. A draft agreement aims to preserve the academy's research, education, and public mission, possibly through a new, smaller museum with another partner, and relies on support from the city's nonprofit and foundation community.
