Pittsburgh Craft Brewery Wins National Award

PITTSBURGH, PA — A Pittsburgh brewery has something to celebrate after winning a prestigious national award.

Dough Daddy Brewery, a woman-owned, dog-friendly brewery in Gibsonia has won a gold medal at the U.S. Open Beer Championship — one of the largest and most competitive beer competitions in the country — in the Pumpkin Beer category for its seasonal favorite, Bone Daddy.

The U.S. Open Beer Championship is the third-largest beer competition in the United States, drawing entries from breweries across the country and internationally, judged across more than 180 categories and subcategories. A gold medal win in a crowded seasonal category like Pumpkin Beer is a significant distinction for any brewery.

Bone Daddy, crafted by Head Brewer George Kepler and Assistant Brewer Lance Miller, is brewed in a Scottish-style ale tradition and layered with real pumpkin puree, warm pumpkin pie spice, brown sugar, and a touch of vanilla.

“We pour a lot into this beer every year, so having it recognized on a national level feels incredible,” said Dough Daddy owner Angela Bogacz. “Bone Daddy is a beer that means fall in Pittsburgh, and this fall, we get to pour it as a gold medal winner.”

Dough Daddy Brewery is the sister company to Caliente Pizza & Draft House, the Pittsburgh pizza chain and reigning international pizza champion. The brewery has become a go-to neighborhood spot in its own right, known for its relaxed, dog-friendly beer garden — one of the few in the Pittsburgh area where four-legged patrons are always welcome.
