📰 News we're reading

1. East Greenwich Council Extends Sewer True-Up to June 2027 (upriseri.com) — East Greenwich sewer customers now have until June 30, 2027, to pay a one‑time sewer true‑up bill, and the Town Council plans to restore and clarify the deduct‑meter program after resident complaints. Councilors also advanced major school construction change orders, approved nighttime sewer interceptor lining work on Main Street and Hunts River, and introduced a demolition‑by‑neglect ordinance for historic properties.

2. East Greenwich Flock Cameras Turned Off by State Police (upriseri.com) — East Greenwich residents should know that three State Police Flock license-plate cameras in town have been deactivated, and the Town Council is holding a prepared legal challenge in reserve if they are ever turned back on. Councilors also extended the one-time sewer true-up payment deadline to June 30, 2027, while continuing to press state officials on privacy, data retention, and who controls any future camera use locally.

3. 39+ of the wildest, wackiest facts about Rhode Island (capecodtimes.com) — East Greenwich gets a proud shout‑out in this roundup of quirky Rhode Island trivia as the birthplace of the Navy, thanks to a 1772 General Assembly meeting in town that created the colony's first naval force. The piece then tours all 39 cities and towns with surprising historical nuggets, from Barrington bricks and Cumberlandite to nudist campgrounds and giant roadside bugs.

4. RIDOT removes aging bridges, changes traffic patterns as replacement costs climb (turnto10.com) — RIDOT is demolishing an aging bridge over Route 4 in East Greenwich and narrowing Route 2, replacing the old structure with a smaller bridge sized for projected traffic. The project is part of a broader statewide push to remove or downsize deteriorating bridges, change traffic patterns, and save tens of millions in replacement costs while still maintaining safe, functional routes for drivers.

5. Cindy-Wood Garden Club Celebrates 50 Years (eastgreenwichnews.com) — A longtime East Greenwich fixture, the Cindy‑Wood Garden Club just marked its 50th anniversary with a celebration and gardening talk in North Kingstown. Members maintain a pollinator‑friendly garden by Swift Gym, run an annual pre‑Mother's Day plant sale at St. Luke's, and support local environmental causes while promoting gardening, civic beauty, and habitat protection in and around town.
