• Parents call for answers after Johnston school bus delays (wpri.com) — Johnston parents faced a chaotic first day of school when many students never received bus assignments and some scheduled buses simply didn't arrive, forcing families to drive kids themselves. The district cited mechanical issues on at least one daycare route, while new contractor Zum said it's still adjusting routes and schedules with Johnston Public Schools to improve reliability in coming days.
   

• Sen. Reed hosts special medal ceremony for local veteran (johnstonsunrise.net) — Johnston resident and Korean War veteran Richard Mende, 94, was recently honored by U.S. Sen. Jack Reed with multiple military medals recognizing his service and lifelong commitment to community. Mende, who built his family home in Johnston and still lives there, has mentored young athletes, led a Korean War veterans chapter, and remains active with his large local family.
   

• Motorcyclist killed in Johnston crash (wpri.com) — A 59-year-old Cranston man died Thursday night after crashing his motorcycle on Route 6 west near the I-295 south on-ramp in Johnston. State police say he missed the on-ramp and struck a bridge abutment and sign; no other vehicles were involved. The investigation into the deadly crash is still ongoing.
