Four Arrested in Newport Check Fraud Investigation Involving $75K in Attempted Deposits (thenewportbuzz.com) — Police say checks stolen from mailboxes in and around Newport were washed, altered, and deposited at Centreville Bank, leading to four arrests tied to more than $75,000 in attempted deposits. Troopers traced the scheme to a Maple Avenue apartment and other Newport addresses, with suspects now facing multiple fraud and conspiracy charges in district court.
   

2. Miramar and the Bailey's Beach clubhouse honored at Doris Duke Preservation Awards (whatsupnewp.com) — Newport's own Miramar estate and the Bailey's Beach clubhouse were just celebrated at the Doris Duke Historic Preservation Awards, highlighting local excellence in restoration and climate resiliency. Hosted by the Newport Restoration Foundation at Rough Point, the sold-out event raised record funds to support preservation work, tenant stewardship, and historic trades training across the city.
   

3. Rogers shuts out EWG/Prout 30-0 at Toppa Field (whatsupnewp.com) — Rogers High School delivered a dominant 30-0 shutout of the EWG/Prout co-op at Newport's Toppa Field, with the defense keeping the visitors out of the end zone all night. Brayden Ward powered the offense on the ground, while Rafael Palencia added key runs and conversions and Jay Northup scored on a long fumble return. The win came against an EWG/Prout squad still seeking its first victory.
   

4. RITPA issues travel restrictions on bridges (wpri.com) — If you're planning to cross the Newport Pell Bridge, be aware that high-profile vehicles like box trucks, trailers, and RVs are temporarily barred due to stormy conditions. The R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority is restricting access on several major bridges and will help turned-away drivers safely reverse course until winds ease.
