Local authorities urge residents to plan alternate ways to receive emergency alerts and say the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office will share updates as they learn more.

3. Aiken suspect dies in police custody after disorderly conduct arrest (theaugustapress.com) — A 36-year-old Aiken man died after becoming unresponsive in the back of a patrol car upon arrival at the Aiken County Detention Center following a disorderly conduct arrest. Aiken public safety officers, EMS, and hospital staff attempted life-saving measures, and now the Aiken County Coroner’s Office and SLED are investigating, with an autopsy planned to determine the cause of death.
