• Clemson says Beaufort County hit hardest by invasive hornet (wjcl.com) — Beaufort County is bearing the brunt of South Carolina's yellow-legged hornet invasion, with Clemson crews removing 430 nests here so far this year. Officials warn the invasive hornet threatens local honeybees and gardens, and they're asking residents to photograph suspected nests from a safe distance and report them instead of trying removal themselves. 
• Beaufort nonprofit brings multiple organizations under one roof to better serve community (wsav.com) — In Beaufort, Lowcountry Outreach is uniting several nonprofits under one roof and tackling a major local problem: about 15% of Beaufort County residents lack reliable transportation. Their Angel Rides program already takes patients to free medical appointments as far as Bluffton, Walterboro, and Charleston, and the group hopes to expand access to more essential services for vulnerable neighbors.
• $15B state spending plan approved with no legislator-requested projects (b2bpeedeebusiness.com subscription) — Beaufort residents should know the new $15 billion South Carolina budget boosts the homestead property tax exemption for homeowners 65+ and raises teacher pay, but leaves nearly $380 million in local projects unfunded. Sen. Tom Davis of Beaufort backed an island transportation earmark that was cut as House and Senate leaders clashed over how much to spend on community projects statewide.
