1. Bets for the Brave Gala Returns to Charleston Feb. 27, 2027 (holycitysinner.com) — A casino-style Bets for the Brave Gala will return to downtown Charleston on February 27, 2027, at The Grand on Mary Street. The event will gather about 350 guests to honor military members, veterans, and first responders, raise funds through gaming and raffles, and support organizations chosen by the Homes for Heroes Foundation.
   

2. Stewart named new Charleston emergency manager (thedanielislandnews.com) — Charleston has appointed Jon Stewart as the city's new emergency manager, overseeing preparedness for storms, growth-related risks, and major incidents. With decades of national experience, he'll lead the Fire Department's Emergency Management Division to strengthen planning, coordination, and disaster response across Charleston's neighborhoods.
   

3. Learn & Launch: Prospecting Agent Workshop — Charleston, SC (hubspot.com) — A free, hands-on Prospecting Agent workshop is coming to the Daniel Island Recreation Center in Charleston on October 13, giving you a chance to set up a live play in your own HubSpot portal. Local attendees will get expert guidance, personalized outreach drafts, and a plan to monitor performance, plus coffee and snacks, all in just 90 minutes.
   

4. Riverstone High School opens in North Charleston for at-risk students (live5news.com) — A new tuition-free public charter school, Riverstone High School, has opened in North Charleston to give at-risk students from Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester District Two a second chance at a diploma. With flexible four-hour sessions, multilingual support and coursework in 25 languages, the school already serves more than 80 students and plans to grow to meet local demand.
   

5. New report shows dramatic traffic growth on major tri-county highways (abcnews4.com) — Drivers in Charleston County and the wider tri-county region are facing sharply higher traffic volumes, with some corridors like I-526 and U.S. 52 adding tens of thousands of cars a day since 2016. A new regional report ties the congestion to rapid growth and forecasts another 270,000 residents by 2045, especially along major commuter routes into Charleston.
