College of Charleston students and staff to go device-free for 'Unplug Week' (counton2.com) — College of Charleston is kicking off its biannual Unplug Week today in downtown Charleston, inviting students, staff, and community members to step away from screens for tech-light activities through Oct. 3. Locals can join free events like meditation, cooking classes, game nights, and a public screening and Q&A of the documentary "Your Attention Please," exploring technology's impact on mental health and connection.
   

2. Charleston Historic Chapel Demolition: Ending Demolition by Neglect (memesita.com) — Charleston officials quietly ordered the emergency demolition of the historic Emma Abbott Memorial Chapel on Cooper Street, prompting promises to overhaul how the city handles endangered historic buildings. C&B Fire Department earns higher public protection class (counton2.com) — Charleston County residents served by the C&B Fire Department could see improved fire protection and potentially better insurance rates as the department's ISO Public Protection Classification will rise from Class 3 to Class 2 in January 2027. The upgrade reflects years of investment, training, and planning, and signals stronger firefighting capabilities for the communities within the department's coverage area.
   

5. USC women, CofC men get exhibition wins at Credit One Stadium (live5news.com) — College basketball fans in Charleston just saw South Carolina's women dominate College of Charleston in a 91–60 exhibition at Credit One Stadium, part of TheLinkU Invitational tripleheader. The Gamecocks' strong showing headlined a day that also included a CofC men's win over The Citadel, giving local hoops supporters an early look at both Cougar squads.
