• Starkey Flythe Jr. documented America's bicentennial. 250 years later, a local has a copy of it. (postandcourier.com) — A North Augusta historian is spotlighting a 1976 Saturday Evening Post issue edited by the late Starkey Flythe Jr., who lived in North Augusta during America’s bicentennial. Milledge Murray, who bought the magazine from Flythe’s estate and helped honor his former home with a marker, hopes the preserved issue inspires locals to rediscover history during the nation’s 250th year. 
• 'Never seen anything like her': Helen Vaughan approaches 100 (postandcourier.com) — Aiken’s First Baptist Church recently celebrated longtime kindergarten teacher Helen Vaughan as she approaches her 100th birthday, drawing generations of former students, coworkers, and friends. Among them was North Augusta resident June Sullivan, who praised Vaughan as a quietly generous, proper Southern lady who shaped children’s lives for decades and still remembers where many of her students ended up.
