📰 News we're reading

1. Chattanooga officer honored with Three Stars of Tennessee Award after shooting injury (newschannel9.com) — A Chattanooga police officer, Ryan Berg, has been honored with the Three Stars of Tennessee Award after suffering career-ending gunshot injuries while responding to a call last December. Local officers' quick actions helped save his life, and the state-level award recognizes his sacrifice and the risks Chattanooga first responders face in the line of duty.

2. Chattanooga FC is in the playoffs, but they know the job is not finished (newschannel9.com) — Chattanooga FC has clinched a spot in the MLS Next Pro playoffs and is now fighting for seeding and a home playoff game at Finley Stadium. A win at home this Sunday against Atlanta United II at 3 p.m. would guarantee at least the No. 2 seed, giving local fans a big chance to back the Boys in Blue in person.

3. UTC researchers earn U.S. Patent for Wearable Essential Tremor Control Device (themountainpress.com) — Researchers at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga have earned a U.S. design patent for a wearable device that helps control essential tremor, potentially easing everyday tasks like writing and eating. The UTC-led team, working with partners in Türkiye, has built prototypes and now seeks clinical input and funding to bring this Chattanooga-developed healthcare technology to patients.

4. Final Chattanooga area O'Charley's closes as chain shuts down (timesfreepress.com) — Residents in the Chattanooga area just lost their last O'Charley's, as the Fort Oglethorpe restaurant closed Wednesday, following earlier shutdowns on Shallowford Village Drive and Hixson Pike. The Nashville-based chain has shuttered all its corporate locations nationwide, leaving only a few franchise stores in other states and ending a long run of Southern comfort food and free-pie Wednesdays for local diners.

5. Gas Prices climb above four dollar mark (wdef.com) — Gas prices in Chattanooga have jumped to just over four dollars a gallon at some stations, driven by conflict in the Middle East and disruptions to key oil shipping routes. A financial analyst warns the spike could add thousands in annual energy and grocery costs for Tennessee Valley households and may dampen holiday travel if high prices persist.
