Memphis City Council mutes public comments, drawing scrutiny (actionnews5.com) — Memphis residents speaking at City Council meetings are increasingly having their microphones muted during public comment, especially when criticizing officials or policies. Legal experts warn this could chill participation, while civil rights advocates question whether the council's rules are being applied fairly. Voters unhappy with the practice are reminded they can hold council members accountable in the next city election in 2027.

Lee addresses whether National Guard staying in Memphis (actionnews5.com) — National Guard troops deployed to support the Memphis Safe Task Force may remain in the city, despite recent signs their presence at crime scenes is shrinking and lodging contracts expiring next month. 4. Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee talks priorities before term ends in January (wsmv.com) — Gov. Bill Lee says a multi-agency task force has helped drive a nearly 70% drop in vehicle thefts and the best overall crime statistics Memphis has seen in 25 years. He also outlines plans for toll-based "choice lanes," continued National Guard support, and a bid for a major federal nuclear campus as his term ends in January.
