• Farmers eligible for disaster aid (farmvilleherald.com) — Farmers in Amherst County are now eligible for USDA drought disaster assistance, including potential emergency loans, after this spring’s extreme dry conditions. Neighboring counties and nearby cities like Lynchburg and Danville also qualify, but Amherst producers have eight months from the disaster declaration date to apply. Local farmers should contact their FSA office or visit the Virginia FSA website to review options.
