ARLINGTON, VA — A woman died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday night while she was in a crosswalk on South Glebe Road, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Police and firefighters were dispatched around 8:51 p.m. to the intersection of South Glebe Road and 14th Street South for a reported crash, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver was traveling south on South Glebe Road when the vehicle struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk, according to police.

The woman suffered critical injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police said her identity was being withheld until her next of kin could be notified.

The driver, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, remained at the crash scene, according to police.
