Bristow Man Faces Felony Charges After South Glebe Road Incident: Police

ARLINGTON, VA — A Bristow man faces three felony charges after police said he entered an Arlington business wearing a ski mask and acted disorderly late Tuesday night.

Cameron Payton, 26, was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon and one count of wearing a mask in a public place, according to Arlington County police. He was held without bond.

Officers were dispatched at approximately shortly before midnight to investigate the report of a larceny in the 200 block of South Glebe Road. Police said employees called after a man entered the business wearing a ski mask and began acting disorderly.

Responding officers saw someone matching the suspect’s description leaving the business and took him into custody, police said. Investigators recovered a firearm and ammunition from the suspect and determined he was a convicted felon, according to police.

Arlington General District Court records identify the defendant as Cameron Michael Payton and list his arrest date as Wednesday. All three charges are listed as Class 6 felonies.

The records list one weapons charge as possession or transportation of a weapon by a violent felon and the other as possession of a weapon or ammunition by a felon.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Oct. 26 in Arlington General District Court. The records list a public defender as Payton’s attorney and show no disposition in the three cases.

Earlier Fairfax Cases Included Misdemeanor Conviction

Fairfax County General District Court records show Payton pleaded guilty Feb. 4, 2025, to misdemeanor assault and battery in a case that initially charged him with felony malicious wounding. The case stemmed from a Jan. 19, 2023, offense.

The charge was reduced to a Class 1 misdemeanor, and Payton received a 180-day jail sentence, all suspended, according to the court record.

A separate misdemeanor assault and battery charge, with an alleged offense date of Jan. 25, 2023, was dismissed March 1, 2023, court records show.

Those two Fairfax records do not identify the felony conviction cited by Arlington police in connection with the new weapons charges.
