Bridge Demolition, Reconstruction To Impact Loudoun County Traffic: See Timeline
Work on a Route 690 bridge begins Sept. 8, with narrowed lanes and traffic shifts expected during the phased replacement.
PURCELLVILLE, VA — Loudoun County drivers can expect narrowed lanes and changing traffic patterns beginning next month as crews start demolishing and rebuilding the Route 690 bridge over Route 7.
Work is scheduled to begin Sept. 8, weather permitting, as part of the larger Route 7/Route 690 interchange project. The bridge will remain open to traffic during construction, according to county officials.
During the first phase, expected to last two to three weeks, lanes on Route 690 will be narrowed to accommodate construction crews.

Crews will then demolish and rebuild one side of the bridge while vehicles use the remaining portion. Once the new section is finished, traffic will shift onto it, marking the bridge's final traffic configuration.

Most construction will take place during weekday daytime hours, although weekend work is possible. Daytime and evening work affecting traffic will be scheduled outside peak commuting hours when possible, county officials said.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and watch for construction signs and changing traffic patterns.
The bridge work is part of a new interchange at Route 7 and Route 690, also known as Hillsboro Road. County officials said the project is intended to improve connections around Purcellville, reduce through traffic downtown and provide more direct access to destinations north and northwest of Route 7.
The overall interchange project is expected to reach substantial completion in winter 2029.
