Herndon Man Charged With Reckless Driving Over Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Sterling

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – A Herndon man has been charged with reckless driving in connection with an August accident that killed a Sterling man.

According to the charges, Mobeen Khatri was driving at a speed of 122 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone on the night of Aug. 19, when the accident happened.

Khatri was traveling on Route 7 at Palisades Parkway when he struck Shawneil Clarke Alexander, 24, of Sterling. Loudoun County sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash and reported that Khatri remained at the site of the accident. Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene.

Loudoun Now, citing court documents, reports that Khatri is accused of striking Alexander while traveling faster than 80 mph, and that the impact threw Alexander more than 150 feet. They also report that there were juvenile passengers in Khatri’s car at the time of the accident, and they had asked him to slow down.

Khatri's arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 3. The charges were filed on Aug. 20 and Khatri was released on a summons.
